About this deal

Man-made fibres section covers both synthetic fibres and artificial fibres, where the latter term describes the fibres that have their origins in nature but that require chemical processes to make the actual fibres that can be used in garments. I haven’t exhaustively analyzed its oversights but most objections readers may have are related to difference between UK and US English as its authors are English. By far, hands down, my favorite part about this book is the section Natural, Artificial, and Synthetic Comparisons.

Point is, most entrepreneurs are too busy to read enough of a textile textbook to get much (if anything) out of it. Amanda Johnston has worked as a freelance design consultant since 1982 and currently teaches at London College of Fashion. The chapters in Fibres-sections go through a short history of the fibres, the properties and production.

This easily navigable resource provides over 100 swatches of the most recognised and widely used varieties of fabric, including cottons, silks, wools and linens, to encourage consideration of not just the aesthetic appeal of various fabrics but also their structure, feel and weight. This fabric swatch consists of top-notch designers like Bruce Oldfield, Marimekko, Sonia Rykiel, and many others. This all-in-one text and swatch book offers current and high-quality fashion fabric samples alongside vital information like fabric name, fiber content, yarn construction, count, coloration, weight, uses, characteristics, and comparisons to other fabrics.

They could have used a “poka-yoke” method [yes, I learned that from you :-) ], like cutting the swatches as rectangles so it would be impossible for that to happen. One thing though – it looks like the acetate satin swatch is mounted sideways in this copy of the book?

Clive Hallett has worked in the fashion industry since 1972 and has been a design consultant since 1978. I just bought a scarf as a little birthday gift for myself… I felt a little naughty doing it, but every once in a while, a little gift doesn’t hurt, right? We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. The fabric swatch book by this author contains guides that provide sample course outlines, assignments, and tips for daily use as well as obstacles that any fashion professional would come across.

Contains over 100 swatches of the most recognised and widely used varieties of fabric, including cottons, silks, wools and linens. The Entrepreneur's Guide to Sewn Product Manufacturing is guaranteed to get you off to a solid start or your money back. The “Fabric for Fashion” is a perfect fabric swatch book for fashion students, designers, and anyone who works closely with fabrics. The textbook with activities, 210 exclusive fabric samples, Quick Reference Guide tables, pre-printed mounting boards for quick access to all swatches, and an 8x metal pick glass are all contained in a sturdy three-ring binder.but I have saved it and also added in your RSS feeds, so when I have time I will be back to read a lot more, Please do keep up the fantastic work. Most pages seem to consist of a dense wall of text with black and white grainy photos taken in the 1970’s.

With information on fibres, basic construction of fabrics, weights, construction, and weave comparison, the book will help student fashion designers to make informed textile choices based upon an understanding of raw materials together with the processes that make up a fabric. I’m a total nerd about textiles and do already have some textbooks on the subject… but I’ve read them many times and like to read all the sources out there! There are 100 swatches in the book and with exception of a few they are in their natural, undyed state.

The Colored Pencil Swatch will help you create your color charts with different color combinations as it has an A5 coloring companion. This section is exactly what it sounds and is something that I've found a lot of authors don't cover in their books and a lot of people don't fully understand. I find prints and colours far too distracting, often considering them more than how the fabric will hang and drape when the garment is made. Kathleen is the author of The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Sewn Product Manufacturing, the most highly rated book of any topic in the garment industry. Here are the 10 most amazing and wonderful fabric swatch books that are must-have but are also affordable.
