About this deal

Tolkien writes with such care for his sentences that you can barely put the book down. The story itself is compelling as well, in two ways: firstly, one is simply enchanted by the story, wondering where it will go next, and feeling for Niggle; but secondly, and maybe most importantly, the reader is left wondering just what this story is representing. Overall, it's just an amazing feeling to get familiar with an author on such a level and just so comfortable with his work as a whole. Whenever I read something by Tolkien nowadays, it feels like returning home. Blesseth!

Leaf by Niggle is an unusual choice for inclusion, as I don't really consider that Faerie enters into it at all. For me, this was the most surprising story in the collection as it is utterly unlike anything else I've read by Tolkien. It has a dystopian and Kafka-like opening and is set in an industrialised society, not at all a legendary, Dark Age or Medieval locale. It later moves onto more metaphysical, even theological, ground. Despite Tolkien's avowed dislike of allegory, that's what this story seems to be. I really liked it. If Tolkien had not been consumed by his Middle-earth conception, could stories of this nature have been what he was known for? The Perilous Realm of the title is Faerie Land, but Tolkien has not people it with diaphanous butterfly-winged sprites, but by dangerous and enchanting elves, dragons and giants. The four branches of the book are each different from each other, despite the thematic connection. The collection includes three that are actually featured in The Lord of the Rings as well, and the book had a very cool ‘in-universe’ (esque) preface. It speaks of how some of the stories are written by Bilbo or Sam, and how one featured is actually a dream that Frodo had, although probably not actually written by him. Trata sobre un herrero que consigue un pase para el País de la Fantasía y cómo vive y madura con todas sus aventuras. Para mí, está a la altura del de Egidio: curioso, con transfondo y entretenido.

Also included is J R R Tolkien: An Audio Portrait, in which Brian Sibley draws together interviews from radio and television programmes featuring the author himself, his original publisher Rayner Unwin, his biographer Humphrey Carpenter and many others torelate the story of both Tolkien the man and the worlds he created. Also on disc 2 is Leaf By Niggle. I think children would have trouble understanding this story & there may be content that's not appropriate for them, anyway. The Road to Middle-earth · The Keys of Middle-earth · The Lord of the Rings: A Reader's Companion ·

The series contains the four stories in Tales from the Perilous Realm: Farmer Giles of Ham, Smith of Wootton Major, Leaf by Niggle and The Adventures of Tom Bombadil. The Adventures of Tom Bombadil is the dramatization of Tom's scenes with the four Hobbits in The Fellowship of the Ring, rather than a retelling of the events of the poems The Adventures of Tom Bombadil and Bombadil Goes Boating. Brian Sibley had expressed some pity in not including it in his radio adaptation, and decided to include it here [1]. Entonces, lo que hace más sentido como en toda colección es ver la valía individual de cada uno de los cuentos y ponderar al final. Tales from the Perilous Realm on audiobook was a delight. It's a BBC production, done up with sound effects and theatrical narration. It makes you feel like a child listening your grandfather tell you tall tales about the fantastical. I'm so glad I chose this for 1971 book read! :) This work seems to be some sort of autobiographical about Tolkien himself, who began a story to which he was adding additional things and stories that would end up leading to his famous saga of Beleriand and Middle Earth, and like Niggle, he never stopped changing and adding.

A truly fantastical collection of 5 tales each one epic and grand in scale as you would expect from Tolkien. They are perfect for the hardcore rings fan or those with children the size of hobbits who they wish to introduce to the land of middle earth with the tale of roverandom the dog who is turned into a toy by a sand wizard or farmer giles and his encounter with a dragon. But my favourite of all the tales in this lovely collection is the true over powered god that is Tom Bombadil and his truly funny and grand adventures in middle earth who single handly could of took the ring to mordor and saved frodo, Gollum, boromir (shaun bean) and the age of man/elf a whole lot of trouble. But i don't want to get bogged down in inconsistency the simple fact is this book is perfect for any young fan to cross the bridge into this world before going in deep with the hobbit and perfect for any fan who wants to re-enter middle earth and enjoy there stay without heartache pain or stress and see the beauty and joy and the all out fun side of middle earth the way the hobbits see it in the safety of the shire. Gosh, you don't know how much I loved this short story. Definitely my favorite in this collection, and also one that I will re-read as long as I live. It combined lighthearted moments and a serious message in a brilliant manner, and also left room for interesting academic interpretations. What can ya want more? It is often seen as an allegory of Tolkien's own creative process, and, to an extent, of his own life. Buy anyway. This is a funny book (I mean... a strange one). It's hard to sum it up - to be honest, each of the fairytales deserves its own rating. But like I said, life can be tough, so we'll just have to do with a single one.
