About this deal

The robust metal body and anti-vibration feet make this a durable inflator, ideal for trade use. Has an analogue dial that shows pressure in PSI, kPA, bar and lb/cm2. Comes with valve adaptor set and storage case. If you can’t find the help needed on our DIY blog then why not head over to our forum where you can can help from both tradesmen and other DIY experts. The power consumption of the RAC900 is 280 Watts. That’s equivalent to 5 car headlamp bulbs of 55 Watts each. This is much more than a cigar lighter which is often 180Watts. And it’s continuous throughout the time you’re pumping the tyre. There is an ON/OFF switch at the motor end of the casing with a nice translucentrubber dust cover over it. I don’t know if it is completely waterproof.

Yesterday I had another look at it and tried inflating the van tyre .. no good it wouldn't work.. so I called Ring Technical help.. 0113 2132000 To be honest if I faced a total flat then the associated whole issue of me doing the spare wheel change and inflation at the roadside is now something "management" would veto, and it becomes Green Flag's task.

So what are the plus-points of the Ring RAC700 4×4 Air Compressor? Well, it’s designed for 4×4 car tyres as well as standard tyres. Tyres will gradually lose pressure and most people's requirement for a tyre pump will be to 'top up' that pressure occasionally. A 12V pump is ideal for that purpose, but, to handle the pressure and volume of air in a motorhome's tyres, the pump needs to be a good one. I wouldn't have thought that the 42 seconds the on-test RAC-900 took to inflate a motorhome tyre from 50psi to 60psi can be classed as "an eternity". But while the speed is great, niceties such as a digital gauge, an auto-stop function and lights, are conspicuous by their absence. On the plus side, you get a 7m-long coiled hose between the compressor and the screw-on tyre-valve coupling, and the compressor itself can be up to 2.4 metres from the battery, thanks to long power leads that clamp directly to the battery’s terminals. The preset digital air compressor function with auto shut-off saves time and hassle. Unlike other models, the display also features tyre pressure readings in PSI, BAR and KPA, so no more having to make complicated conversions from one type to another. For dark winter mornings or night time car breakdowns, there’s a handy LED lamp that features a torch, flash and SOS setting for extra convenience and safety. I have the RING RAC900 identified by johnDL and can report I have been very pleased with it on my 65 psi tyres. I know that falls well below the OP's 5.5 bar 80 psi target but it is the best DC inflator by miles I have come across. My more toy earlier ones were fine out of the box but a few years in limped to get above 60 psi.

It does come with a three-piece adaptor kit so that you can inflate small leisure items such as footballs and air beds. He also had a look but came to the same conclusion.. the air couldn't go in without opening the valve.. Below the compressor is connected to a car tyre: RAC900 Tyre Pump In Action The Inline Tyre Pressure Gauge As it stands though I’m more likely to reach for my more convenient battery-powered pump when it comes to squeezing a few extra PSI into my tyres. The Ring RAC700 4×4 Air Compressor weighs a hefty 2.091kg and measures 175mm high, 200mm wide and 130mm deep. Unfortunately, the Screwfix master plug is as stated a 10A rated item, whereas the Ring RAC 900 the OP has is rated at 30 Amps, massively higher. Likewise, the three minutes 20 seconds inflation time that the Ring RAC700 took to get our test tyre from flat to 30PSI is slower than a professional product. For our test we used a 205/55 x 16 tyre.

The underlying concept is good advice, but I would use a pair of Anderson, standard grey SB50 connectors, and include an adequately rated fuse close to the positive battery pole. The 2.4m length of the battery connection cables, plus the 7-metre (extended) length of the air-line, should allow any of wheels of most motorhomes to be reached if (as Keithl has mentioned above) the pump is connected to a Ducato’s engine-compartment ‘jump start’ points. In terms of layout, this T-Maxx product and the RAC900 are practically the same. The compressor’s power leads clamp directly to battery terminals, and the large coiled hose allows plenty of distance between the compressor and the coupling/gauge/deflate button. While the power lead is a smidgen longer than the RAC900’s, the air hose is shorter. And, ultimately, the Ring is the faster unit, with this one taking five seconds short of two minutes in the inflation test. Additionally, it comes with an LED light complete with three modes, so you can use it to warn ongoing traffic if you are in an emergency situation. Under the base, there is a well-designed cord storage area that prevents too many kinks from occurring, as well as a handy area to store the included nozzles and adaptors. WARNING: Tampering with the safety valve or hose connection at the compressor is likely to invalidate any guarantee and may introduce safety issues so I will not recommend it.

I've no interest in further cluttering up my garage with the type of compressor you bought, but I do value the versatility of a powerful 12V tyre-pump that takes up little storage space and can travel with me in my motorhome. If people are looking for a pump most suitable for inflating motorhome tyres at any time or place, then I don't think there's anything better on the market than the RAC-900. If they just want a mains-powered pump, then they can do as you did, but they won't be able to travel with it.I’ve used it to top up car and motorbike pressures and once to seat a stubborn tubeless tyre on a mountain bike. I like the screw-on fittings and long hose but generally think a digital gauge is easier to use than an analogue one. It’s a hefty bit of kit, but super speedy and surprisingly quiet. With that I have no trouble in lifting the odd few psi up to 65 that I might encounter when out and about.
